Alanna EzellArtist Statement ![]() I have two different points I would like to make with my art. I have had the privilege of growing up with two different cultures. I was born and raised in rural texas, and my parents and extended family were from a rural area in north Florida. This gave me the opportunity to see vast differences in the American cowboy. I would like to show the reality of these two cultures, not to romanticize it, but show the reality of a life that was lived and the traditions that are carried on today. The values and mindset of these cultures made an impression in my life and influenced the way I view things today. I have two different mediums I choose to work in. Bronze casting was my first love. I am fascinated with the ability to turn an idea into a physical form that can be touched and seen from all angles. Bronze also gives me the satisfaction of putting events that were long ago forgotten about into a physical state that will remain long after I am gone. My second medium is watercolor painting. This medium satisfies needs I have for my art that bronze cannot. Watercolor gives me the freedom to paint with my emotions, to allow the color and sharpness or softness of the lines to influence the "feel" of an event. By producing art of this subject matter I would hope to pass on some of what was given to me. I believe that our western history has been so romanticized that the reality has been taken out. I would like to break through the romanticized idea of how majestic the cowboy is with his horse and show the reality of a life that is gone, to show to the best of my ability how things really were- good and bad. |
